SRI LANKA Sri Lanka is located just off the bottom right hand side of India in the Pacific Ocean. In the aquatics world Sri Lanka was renowned (notorious?) for its supplies of cheap marine fish which were sadly all too often cyanide caught (a situation which has now thankfully vastly improved). On the freshwater side it is often overlooked which is surprising because a great many lovely fish come from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a uniquley mixed country famous with tourists for its lovely white sandy beaches. Unfortunately, most people totally miss the hills and mountains as they never get past the beaches. The freshwater habitat in the interior is huge and there are some really interesting native fishes: Giant Danios, Black Ruby Barbs, Filamentus Barbs, Paradise fish, Killifish and the like. They also have Elephants and some really BIG puss cats And some mad ways of fishing, these guys are called stilt fishermen and just as the name suggests they fish from up really tall poles, goodness knows why but they all seem to do it.
